Project: Ellis Alley Enclave

Based on its experience in partnering with public agencies, Eastmont Properties Company (EPC) was selected as the developer of choice by VIA (San Antonio’s Transit Authority), The City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Conservation Society to preserve a group of buildings occupied after the Civil War by the first African-American settlers in San Antonio. Several of the settlers were Buffalo Soldiers who had the undesirable task of protecting the western frontier after the Civil War.

EPC has been working very closely with all of the governmental agencies to see that the character and fabric of the buildings are maintained. Furthermore, Eastmont Properties Company is using historic tax credits to assist in the funding of the preservation.

Once restored, the buildings will be occupied with tenants that will serve the passengers of the adjacent transit hub as well as the surrounding community. Art work and features such as a story telling circle and museum are included to assist in preserving the culture and heritage as well as the buildings.
