The Nathan A. Miley Senior Housing Community
at Eastmont transforms an existing derelict
four-story office building into a state-of-the
art independent living facility for seniors,
featuring 69 units of affordable housing, a
community room with a kitchen, a community garden,
on-site laundry facilities, secured parking,
and much more. The project celebrates the accomplishments
of Alameda County Supervisor and former City
of Oakland Council Member Nathan A. Miley, a
relentless advocate for seniors’ rights.
It is the capstone of Eastmont Properties Company’s
master plan for the redevelopment of the Eastmont
community in east Oakland, California, and a
tribute to the company’s vision of replacing
vacant space with vital services and community-serving
retail.
An $11 million project developed
under the direction of Eastmont Property’s
Senior Project Manager Greg Garrett, the Nathan
A. Miley Senior Housing Community was awarded
$7.5 million of the 9% Federal Affordable Housing
Tax Credits — the only seniors project
in Oakland to receive 9% tax credit funding
in 2005. The project also received $3 million
of permanent financing and a $500,000 grant
from the City of Oakland. The Nathan A. Miley
Senior Housing Community was designed by the
award-winning African American-owned architectural
firm, Michael Willis Architects. TEAM Construction
and Development, a member of the TEAMWRKX family
of companies, was chosen as the project’s
general contractor. Construction of the project
began in February 2006, and the project sponsors
and general contractor have taken great care
to involve as many local and minority-owned
vendors as possible. Leasing opportunities for
the Nathan A. Miley Senior Housing Community
begin in June 2006, with occupancy starting
in January, 2007.
